Sri Lanka is a major location for watching whales and is situated within an international whaling commission protected zone in the Indian Ocean. The sight of these magnificent, giant creatures as they rise high in the air draws many marine enthusiasts to Mirissa.

Increased sightings of both blue whales and sperm whales can be expected during the months of January to April due to migration patterns. Aerial whale watching too can be arranged.
